Hello everyone. I just bought a 97 600 katana this past weekend. This morning I took it out for a quick spin and it seemed to be running fine. This afternoon however the bike starts right up, but the engine dies as soon as the bike is put into gear. There seems to be plenty of tension in the clutch. I have not worked on street bikes very much and I am not sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Umm... Why hasn't anyone suggested you put the kickstand up?

They have all said it. But, welcome to KR.
Check the spring tension on the kickstand. If it is worn, you may put it up, but it will fall down a bit and hit the switch. Also, the bolt may be loose. Check those and you should be fine. If that doesn't fix it, you may have a bad switch or short on the wiring.2006 GSXR 600 Gone to Gixxer heaven
