  • Noob from Chicago area

    Hi all!

My name's Chad and I'm from one of the west 'burbs of Chicago. I joined up because I volunteered to rebuild what I'm told is an '89 Katana 750.

Wanted to learn as much about the platform as I can. I know I'm going to need to clean and retune the carbs, but probably no more than general maintenance after that. I believe the bike has less than 3K original miles and has never been laid down. It's been sitting in a garage for most of its life.

My only other past bike project was an '87 Yamaha FZ700 that I bought wrecked and completely restored.

Nice to meet you all, and nice to be here.

Thanks to all of you for the warm reception. I'm no stranger to automotive forums (on 3 car-related ones) and I know that noobs asking questions is usually responded to with "SEARCH". LOL

Well, I've done some browsing and searching and I still have a question: Is there a "Katana bible" (with maybe drill-down by year and cc) sticky somewhere? I just need a quick overview of the bike. Basically all I know about it at this point is that it's a 750 and it's air-cooled. Wikipedia doesn't really have much detail nor does the KatWiki linked at the top of this forum. I need to know service-manual type stuff, such as model quirks, platform weaknesses (like I've heard that transmission issues may be a weak point), factory setups (such as OEM parts manufacturers), tips for "must-do" modifications (like re-routing the throttle cable from between carb 2 & 3, per the carb 101 write-up), and just platform history/model differences, etc etc.

Am I overlooking something or is there no such "bible" sticky? Thanks!
