  • Help!

My name is Vanessa. I have a 1989 Katana. It's all original and nothing has been modified. While I LOVE my bike, I desperately want to get rid of the rear fender. I have gone online, ebay, the whole nine yards and can't find a fender eliminator that is old enough for my bike. Can anyone help? I want to also have the turn signals included in the eliminator kit, so they're smaller...and maybe more up to date.

The common phrase to search for is "shovel chop". Essentially, take a dremmel or saw to the fender, but leave enough of a tab to mount your plate and signals. You can get smaller signals at almost any shop.

I seem to remember someone making one from a joist hanger. I think the thread was titled "$1 fender eliminator" or something.

      Welcome, and happy modding!

Hey Vanessa, welcome to KR. A hacksaw and some beers and you'll figure it out. It's a bit daunting to chop into your bike, but once you do it you'll get the bug for it you'll keep finding other things do hack into. Good luck and don't forget pictures once it's done.
