      Backrest part II

Time to see how well a poor mans backrest works for the Katana.

Still need to cover it, will most likely get that finished tomorrow.

That's awesome. I need to do that for my 7r. I took it on a trip a couple of weekends ago logging over 300 miles a day and had to stop every 75 miles or so for a butt break. Corbin doesn't offer one for my bike either. Great write up. To bad your in Oregon or you'd be my new best friend and a case of beer richer.

The staples I used were 3/16 I believe, with a hand powered heavy duty stapler. I just threw the first backrest together quickly so I could see if it would work ok or not, going to try hiding the staples better on any other backrest's I make. On the seat itself as long as you aim the staples in towards the foam instead of out towards the sides where they would cause problems with the vinyl and be visable, you could even use 1/4" staples. Since they have to go through the vinyl, and about 1/8" of plastic seat pan, you shouldn't have a problem with the 1/16" or so that's left poking you through the padding.

Done, wish I was better at doing upholstery though, would look a lot better if I took it into a shop and had them cover it.

nice job. and i think you did a good job with the write up as well. I have done the seat on my wifes bike and I will also be doing the seat on my kat build bike as well. I only did a before and after pic of the wifes seat but when i was done i had wished i did a write up that would help others to see its really not as hard as most people would think. As far as you thinking you would have got a better lok if you took it to an upholstery shop, well I worked in the limo fab industry for 3 yrs and just so you know I have seen alot worse jobs done by someone that knew what they were doing. I think it looks great man.

I have a FZX just like that, glad to see that are still some out there.
I wish I had added jell when I had my seat done. Nice job

Too bad you weren't on the site back in Feb. Wife and I came down to So Cal in the beginning of March and were looking for people to ride with. I'll most likely be down there again next March for a week or so and will probably have that bike with me again.

I haven`t ridden the Fazer in some time, I need to get a motor manual for it. Just a nosie valve, I think I lost a shim.

I downloaded a PDF manual online for it. Halfway down the page http://www.fzx750.co.uk/Service.html
