  • Paint design idea, (stolen from 91 GSXR)

OK, my 90 750 is mono dark grey, ok for a track bike, but boring.
I decided to add some color so I looked at some vintage GSXR pics.
    I like the 91 GSX-R 1100.
I did some photoshop to change the colors to what I have in mind:
    current paint:

91 GSXR1100 with maroon over grey:

I like it. It's going to be a lot work but, cool when done.

It's adding a clear coat that increases the work.
I wanted to just go single stage urethane to make it easy to repair rashes.
But I have some leftover metal-flake maroon and silver base and clear coat urethane. Can't beat no cost.
I'll have to do this in one day, because base needs to be clear coated in 24 hours.
Just bought a genuine Suzuki SACS decal, for a modest beginning.

Your Kat-Mobile is quite similar, but I wanna just paint the maroon over the existing grey, keep the work to a minimum.

doing anythning two tone or with stripes/designs needs to be two stage paint. you can't single stage the base then go back and mask off more single stage. it'll leave you with height differences and open edges in the paint where it will flake and peel.

You are right, I would not be happy with those height differences, plus I'd like to clear coat over any graphics too.
Track bikes fall down some, single stage is easier to respray. Just downgrading for that environment.

On another note, seems like most of us don't care for big SUZUKI lettering on the tank. Not sure I wanna do that.

whenever a bike is repainted i always like to see the manufacturers name put back on. not necessarily the model or size, but just having "Suzuki" on it would be good

Thought I would let you know...
There is a company that makes a dual head light for the Katana too.
Got a tweaked piece of plastic? Some roughed up paint? Here's the place to get some tips on repairing your Suzuki Katana.

Or maybe you could paint the factory lense or some thing.

Thanks, but I'd rather spend my money on engine parts.

I've been following katanarider's post about headlight mods and considering that and commented there, but I like your mirrors too. Did you say those are post 98 mirrors?
                    Thanks.

                            This is the weekend

OK, here's a last look at ye olde.
I've already wet sanded and prepped the body, and have it half taped.
I've decided to eliminate the aluminum side panels. Did NOT really want to toss OEM body parts, but Suzuki did it when they updated in '98.
I already got GSXR mirrors like 92xjunker has, those look real good, and they're genuine Suzuki with a slightly convex surface so I get a wider view behind, I love those.
