  • 5forty2's duKATi project. P

Let's get this thing started. So I have always loved the look of a nice single sided swingarm and have been tossing around this idea for a while. I ran across one for a ducati at a great price and figured "why not". The swingarm is still in transit, but I figured I would go ahead and start the thread and show everyone what I'm starting with. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated and I already owe gsxfJim a lot of thank yous for his help and advice so far. I will be taking lots of pics, and probably bugging the crap out of the more engineering or machining minded members that I know on here, so I'm sorry and thanks in advance. Anyway, here is where I'm at right now, I have 2 pre 750's and an 88 600 along with a bunch of buckets and boxes full of extra parts (some of which I will be selling to help finance th duKATi project, so feel free to pm me if you need anything). Now for the pics.

Too bad you already bought the Duc arm as I have a complete arm/hub/brake assembly for a Honda NT650 that would have been a better fit. The Duc arm should be around a 1/4" wider at the pivot than the NT arm. You'll most likely need to have material machined off the pivot to make it fit between your frame rails, custom bushings machined, new bearings, new shock mounts welded to your frame, etc. Let me know if there is anyway I can help...look forward to seeing your progress! For anyone else wanting to do this, feel free to PM me about my NT arm...it'll be going up for sale as part of my summer clearing out the garage parts sale

For those curious about SSSA widths, here's some other random info I have:

              Ducati 748/916/996/998 - 243mm
              Honda VFR750 (1990-93) - 242mm
              Honda VFR750 (1994-97) - 227mm
              VFR400 - 192mm
              RVR400 - 202mm
              Hawk NT650 - 235mm
              RC30 - 235mm
              RC45 - 250mm
              VFR800 - 280mm
              MV Agusta F4 - 255mm
              Triumph Daytona 955i - 284mm

Honda VFR ('90-'2003+), Hawk, RC30/45, NSR250 all use the same relative rear wheel offset. i.e. mix and match wheels amongst the various models and so long as the spindle face is unmolested the wheels will remain centered.

If I knew I could handle the machine work I'd love to take that swingarm off your hands. That is a very nice amount of info for anyone looking to do a swap someday.
