  • bald tire, tinted visor, rain at night = bad experience

on my ride with chris today, i pretty much finished of my front tire. I knew it was time to change, but was waiting on my new one. anyway...the last hour and a half or so, it was pouring rain, I only had my tinted visor cuz i thot we would be back before dark....and my front tire was hydroplaning. I shit you not, curves on the hwy were stressing me out. I could feel it sliding. not much...but just enough to freak the crap outta me...especially at 60mph on the hwy. top it all off, i could see for shit.
so as this story states, i have learned a valueable lesson. DO NOT RIDE IN THE POURING RAIN WITH A BALD TIRE AT NIGHT WITH A SMOKE TINTED VISOR!
I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

i tried lifting the visor a bit to peek under it, but it felt like i was getting stung by bees.

Myself, Z, and Special K felt the same way riding back to the Inn on Rt28 at night. So much fog and bugs, you were screwed no matter what visor you had.

I still had another hour or so of riding in the rain and fog after Mojoe got off the highway, I could'nt see shiate and my visor was clear. I also loved the beware of moose and deer signs along the way home! Next ride you're heading down my way Mojoe, maybe we'll go see the boys around Ottawa? In all fairness Mojoe asked if I wanted to crash at his place instead of riding in the rain but I was due for some wet weather riding to keep in tune. We saw alot of nice scenery, I'm sure Mojoe will post some pics soon.It was a great trip except for the rain on the way back. Note to Mojoe: Don't try to pass unmarked police cars on mountain roads.

ya....i was going to blow right by him....and the other 2 or 3 cars that were there. good thing i was not alone and that you saw him, cuz i was going for it. I wonder how much that would have cost? I did have the dotted line....legal to pass. it's the speed I would have done it that would have gotten me the ticket.

I once rode all day in the sun escorting Taz into the northern parts of Ohio with a tinted screen...I mean come on...It only rained (downpoured) for the last 20 miles!

Ever since I will throw on the clear visor and glasses if there is a chance of rain.

Bugs/rain/tinted visor is a bad combo!

Sounds like the GixerKat/BearKat adventure from Malibu to San Diego. Our tires where not as bad sounding as yours but....I know what that ride must of felt like.

I had a similar experience minus the bad front tire. I went to work on the Kat, and it started raining like crazy just as I got of work. I thought "maybe if I wait it'll let up" ... it only rained harder! So, I strapped my helmet on and strolled out into the rain. To add insult to injury, while I was riding on the freeway lightning struck nearby, so close that it didn't make that "boom" sound, it was more like a "CRACK". I was soaked and rattled when I got home but I did make it home.
