bike alarms

I'm looking at getting an alarm for my bike. At this point I've narrowed it down to these 2. Just wondering if anyone has these and if they can give some opinions(ease of use, size of unit, ease of installation, quality of product, etc.) Also, supposedly you can add a 2 way pager to the 7007 but I haven't been able to find a place to buy it, does anyone know where I could and how much it cost? This idea actually crossed my mind upon my bike being tipped the other day. I was wondering if you had an alarm if it would go off upon crashing to the ground, haha, which I'm sure it would. Seems like an easy enough investment compared to letting someone get away who has pushed your bike over. I don't have any answers to your question just verifying that you should buy one! lol.

My bike has a tipping sensor. If the bike is mucked-with, it will sense the change in lean-angle while sitting.

I have that gorilla 2-way pager alarm and love it. Had it for over a yr now and it was stupid simple to install. Has tip sensor, shock sensor, and of course it tells you when it is going off or if it's just gave a warning chirp.

I found mine at the local cycle gear. I'm sure any local bike shop can order it for you. Alot of people recommend the scorpion alarms, and they are good, but so far I have found no flaw with the gorilla.

I thought about doing this a while back and figured out that it is much cheaper to build your own. I used to have the wiring diagrams somewhere, but moving from computer to computer has made them get misplaced.

it prolly would be a good idea to have an alarm with the pager thing. the hooligans at my old apartment complex cut the upper tripple to pull the ignition lock off of my old zx7 then wired it up and drove off. neibors watched it all said they asked em what they were doin and they said they were picking it up for me and i neglected to give them the key. it was found bent and broken in dallas 3 months l8er. so yea where do they sell the first alarm again? is there a discount for buy multiples??

oh yea i head something a while back about a guy using his old phone to track his bike down after a theft. he took his old phone and one of those cheap car chargers cut the end off the car charger and wired it to his battery plugged it into his phone and stuck it in a ziplock bag and electrical tapped the bag where the wire goes in. when it was stolen he gave the cops all the numbers for the phone esn and such and the tracked it back to a guy with 7 bikes in his garage that he was dismantling.

i dont think he would of picked it up any way he would of just left and never would of got cought tho lol

lol nooo I would've heard it from the distance I was away from him. Plus doesn't your keyring flash or make noises too?

I think you need the 2 way pager for the keyring to alert you, I was hoping to find that out on here for sure though. I am leaning towards the more expensive one, and that price from Motomummy is the best I have found and it includes shipping.

The $165 price is better than what I gave ($200) but having the key chain tell me when someone is jacking with it was still well worth it. If someone just tilt's it off the kickstand to sit on it, my keychain will alert me.

Mine too. Once it gets past a certain point with the engine off you have to reset it through the gauges/ecu to get the thing to start again. I'm very happy with it.

How big is the unit that you install on the bike? Wondering if it will fit under my seat or if I will need to use up what little trunk space I have.

Im thinking of installing an alarm also, but im just wondering if it will kill the battery if not started in a couple days. Sometimes i leave my bike sitting for a week at a time and i dont want to always have to charge the battery before every ride.

anybody got any incite into this?

1 more question: If I'm at work and the bikes at home and the alarm goes off, will it just keep chirping all day or will it shut off after a while? I read the remote only works upto a half mile away and I work further than that.

The main unit is about the size of your fist. If it goes off and your not around to turn it off it will reset after 30 sec. or a min. As far as how big a drag on the battery it would be if left armed and you don't ride for a week, I'm not too sure. I have a garage and don't arm it at home.
