  • Painted My Wheels

I painted my wheels back in March. I used the DupliColor Wheel paint to get rid of the purple. I stripped them first with airplane stripper and then sanded them. The paint seems to be holding up quite well.

I used one coat of primer and two coats of color then two - three coats of clear.

I have since stripped the passenger grab-bar as well but these pictures are from March right after I painted the wheels. So there is now no more purple anywhere on the bike.

Here are some photos showing the grab-bar without paint and the wheels 2 months later. The wheels are a bit dirty now.

I like silver much better than purple. If the paint doesn't hold up you can always have them powder coated.

Nice job, those wheels (and disks) look great.
+1 on getting rid of the purple color, never cared much for it.

Looks really good. Now, you just have to something about that blue suzuki decal on the tank...

Yes. The tank needs some work but I fear the entire thing will require painting because there was a bra (tank protector) on there from the previous owner and that caused unequal fading plus the old silly stickers. Oh and it has a dent too.

I sooo much want to do that to my Kat. Or powder coat them the same color. But what I fear is the light colored wheels causing me to wash my bike more often then I want to.

Well if it is any help the first pics were taken right after I finished painting them and the second set (with the stripped grab-bar) were taken two months later (1000 + miles) and I haven't washed the bike. All I do is wipe down the wheels occasionally with a shop rag. I usually do this when I am putting air in the tires.
