Did it ever come standard on the Kat?

Don't know exactly what you're asking. My K4 has blue uppers with a white lower from Suz.
I agree though, contrasting the lower to the upper is a good thing.

If my lower had been white I might have left it, but I didn't like the factory dark grey, looked crappy, I thought. I intend to eventually get some kind of stripe put on,probably white.

the 600's came with painted cowlings
I still have the brochures from 98 (came with the bike and ownwers manual)
the 750's all had grat lower cowlings,
the black and yellow are shown with color matching lower fiarings

when i had my blue and white 06 600, i wanted to paint it all blue to match the upper fairings....never got around to it, but the misses just had it painted all black so its all one color now.

Saw one done in black ..looks good with a yellow kat plus the dirt wont show down there
