    MIX OIL

changed the 7mo old oil in my kat this morning

saw some left-over oil from the past in my garage

thinking if i dont use them, they will sit there forever

so i did something not everyone would~ mix them

    2qt of Mobile1 15w50 syn
    1qt of ProLine 20w50 dyno
    1qt of Motul3000 10w40 dyno

took my kat for a spin earlier this afternoon

    temperature 78'F
    barometer 29.81 in
    wind se 15mph
    humidity 53%

    running on 87 octane

i pulled it much harder than i usually do

    up-shift at 8~10k rpm

after 90 miles of local freeway and twisties

didnt feel any slip or difference

    just some FYI

hehe...my old kat burnt it's share of oil...so I was always adding to it. Sometime I think between oil changes I added 5 or 6 different brands...lol.
I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

You should be fine with the mix.

I consistently do it -- mixing oils, with just a little bit of 20w50 in the cooler months here and a lot of it in the hottest months. In a sense, anyone who has ever changed brands or weights has mixed oil, because the Kats don't drain out all their oil during an oil change.

As long as all the choices were good oils, no problems

        Cheers

I like to mix mine with a little 7up...
It make's it a bit smoother, and bit easier to chug!

"especially mixing different weights of oil" Bad idea and different brands let along synthetic verse dyno juice have different additive packages ummm good luck with that.

i learned "mix" is not a problem back in the KP time, (2+ yrs ago)
            Cyber may still remember that thread i started, with 50+ replies;
            and that really brain-washed me

i wanted to try that and see for myself for a long time
now i did it, and happy with the result so far

              5-6 qt between changes?

either you waited too long, or you really need to stop that burning.....

I used to mix oil all the time in my yamaha, that old beast would drink oil like it was going out of style.

Have not done it on my kat though, no need too. Knock on wood.

3k miles between oil changes....and sometimes 5k miles towards the end (i said the motor was going to be rebuilt anyway...hence the neglect).
I would burn a quart of oil anywhere between 300-500 miles, depending on my riding. So yes, I did need to stop the burning. My rings are finished. 120k/+ miles on it....it is to be expected.

after 1500 miles, i cant wait to see what my "mixed oil" looks like

i changed it today, and found.....

                          1. no sign of oil burnt
                          2. no sign of clutch slip (rev it up to 10k rpm)
                          3. oil still looks new
                          4. oil still feels new
                          5. less metal shreds i found on the magnetic oil plug
(maybe cuz i didnt run it long enough)

                          using mixed oil again:
                          Mobile1 syn 15/50 2qt
                          Suzuki dino 10/40 2qt
