  • Carbs and the removing of them

Hey all, Finally manage to get my 92 600 transported up to my new house, and have a shifter issue that has been resolved....

Of course after having to let the thing sit this long.... runs like a whipped hunchback with it's knees tied together.

I need some tips on the right way to actually remove, and then Re-insert the carbs. I've had them out once before a couple of years ago..... I'm still recovering from the experience. But it looks like the thing needs a good cleaning, maybe do a rejet at the same time if I'm feeling particularly suicidal. As a side note, the 4 rubber boots coming from the air box to the carbs are fairly loose, you can turn them, they rotate inside the socket in the air box housing. (hope that was coherent, it's early). Do those need to be sealed up some way? The rubber boots themselves look to be in fine shape, no cracks etc....

Another question, would a bike shop do a carb clean? What's a price range i should be looking for there? take em the bare carbs? whole bike?

    Thanks.

I read that, just didn't see much about shoehorning the things back in. Which as far as I can tell is like john holmes trying to deflower a microbe after overdosing on viagra. I'll give it another read.

Good to know about the airbox boots though. I always worried that them being loose was doing weird crap to the airflow.

Given enough time, I'm positive i could manage to thorough cleaning and reassembly.... Time is always the key word in these projects though. As are things like "Why in the hell are you taking that shit apart on the kitchen counter? I'm gonna beat you with a garden hose! Out I want it out Now!"

The boots get stiff with non-use . You can use a little greaqse or something to help slide them back in if need be . Makes them wanna slip back OUT again , so ...... But put the carbs and airbox in as a unit . It WILL take some wiggling . You COULD take out the battery bracket/tank mount to help with that . I don't bother , though .

          Way to Go!

Roscowgo! I just want to extend congratulations to you for making it this far without being ripped to shreds by the "SEARCH" Piranha gang! Way to go man! And you actually got some good feedback too!
Although it is a bit early...maybe they have not noticed the thread yet.
          Peace out!

Nah, they are too busy eating each other at the Gap!!! Seriously though, a search engine can only do so much so why not take the time, answer the question and THEN refer them to the search for further information?? Seems like lording info over someone when you immediately jump on them about using the search function.

Avoiding the searchgangs are a well honed talent..... laziness does have it's rewards.

My biggest issue with getting the stupid things back on.... was always getting 3 random boots on and started... the 4th invariably would catch a lip on the carb and get folded instead of sliding on.

Hurled my keys over the neighbors fence more than once before i got em back on. The kat is facing use as a parking lot only practice bike for the forseeable future. Gf has decided she wants to ride... and is more comfy on the kat than my c50. so this will be a pre and post msf experience builder. maybe after that we can get her on an older nighthawk... ninja 250 etc... I do understand that it's not the friendliest thing on the planet newbie wise.... But i figure basic clutch control, figure 8's and the like....

For that purpose.... I want smooth. dirty carbs causing it to only run with at least half choke=most assurely not smooth
