  • Kentucky Laws

Alright here we go....I may be going to Kentucky this summer at least for a ride. I checked the laws there, and it says that there can be no modifications made to the exhaust. is this true? can i have my D&D or not? if anyone has any insight, that'd be great. thanks
if its got 2 wheels or a skirt....i'll ride it.

Get hold of Z or MD86 on here. They both live in KY. They should be able to shed some light on it for you.

It's only illegal if they stop you...

According to http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/l...t.asp?state=ky , the KY law is:
Muffler required. No cut-outs. No modifications to increase noise beyond that emitted by the original muffler installed on the vehicle (Title 16, Sec. 189.140).
Note that law was passed in October of 1942 and has remain unchanged since then!

      For noise control, see:

The only problem is that they may have a hard time proving that your original equipment wasn't louder... For it to stand up, the cop is going to need a sound meter that's been calibrated and a reference manual that will state what level it must be under. On the other hand, if you prove to be a PIA (or it is just blatently too loud), they may ticket you and let the courts sort it out -- with out-of-state tags, they probably will figure you'll just pay it.

      Cheers

Steve, Ohio has a law kind of like that too. It has to do with race and street legal something or other but it isn't inforced unless they hear you racing from miles away and can catch you. lol

for some reason, my D&D is louder than normal. i'm not sure why. but i think you can only hear me (cruising) from about a 1/2 mile away, maybe a hair more. but when i get on it, then you can probably hear me from much further. since i'm right next to it, i hear it all the time, so i dunno

i've fought every ticket i've ever gotten (speeding, etc), so i would fight a noise violation too. oh well.

I never hear of riders being pulled over for noise here . Speeding and squidlinees , yes . I think alot of the cops don't even really know the laws regarding bikes all that well around here , so I imagine as long as you're not being a dumb-a$$ , you'll be fine .

Bowling Green is about as far away from me as you can get and still be in the state ! It's like in the western tip almost , and I'm near the northern tip .

No , Bowling Green KENTUCKY , not Bowling Green Ohio . But that would work as an analogy . Bowling Green Ohio is about as far away from Cincy as Bowling Green Ky is from me .

I have a friend of the family who lives there. I would at least be visiting there, but I am trying to get a job down there for the summer. He lives in the former governors mansion. I'm not sure if you know him or not, he owns Auburn Metrology Labs (they calibrate equipment, like radar guns, etc.) What do you do down there?
