Anyone replaced the rear shock on the 1100? I just put progressive springs in the front and looking to upgrade the rear end (bike that is)

Five years ago, I found out that Koni was liquidating their stock of Katana 1100 shocks at over half price retail- this for a shock made for the bike.I called them up and was told I was a day too late; the day before, they sent them all to Australia as they were just sitting around

Is it the same length? (12.250" I think)
If so (or even if it's longer) put a GSX-R shock in there!

did anyone tackel those issues? I think that the gsxr shock would be a big improvement no doubt. but I am wondering how the damping rates would stack up.
And even with the proper preload and sag dialed in, does that really accomodate the different loading requirements for the heavier bike? It is a little confusing.
