  • new/old bike

have a 1988 1100 kat. I am told a first year is not good to have but I have it so heres the deal. Just got it recently and was majorly neglected for last couple years. Then just sat outside (under a tarp ) for a year or so. I got it and cleaned tank and got it running. What should I be doing to assure a good rider? I am new to bikes except for play time on a dirt bike or two. never had a street bike so repairs to them are new to me.
I am also an auto mechanic so I can fix whatever I need just dont know where to start. any suggestions would be great.

It's running ? Running WELL ? Usually carbs need cleaned after sitting for a while . Also , chain and sprockets ? Maybe wanna think about fork seals , maybe brake lines , of COURSE tires ......

Congrats on the 1100 - and there is nothing wrong with the 88, they were built on an existing engine platform.

Start with the Manual - best 25 bucks you can spend

Then, because it sat for a while
      Bearings (Check)
      swingarm Check)
      Steering Head (check/ lube)
      Lube cables
Change all Brake / Clutch fluids
      chain / sprocket (check)
      Tires (as mentioned)

Next - go for the engine
      Oil and filter
      Valve adjustment
      Strip and clean carbs
      Clean tank / filter
      Tune and resync carbs
Check charging system / Test Battery

You have to be able to trust the bike, and pushing sucks
