  • Caught in heavy fog

I left the house for work the other morning to a weather report of "some patchy fog in the area, nothing too thick..." only to find myself tiptoeing my way through THICK fog and drizzle. Not only was it foggy, but my visor fogged inside and the drizzle coated the outside of my visor. I could flip it up only briefly, as it was only about 40 degrees outside. I couldn't go over 45 mph because I couldn't see, and I couldn't go under that for fear of being rear-ended, as cars flew past me at 60 and above. It was pretty scary!

What really pisses me off is the people who drive in that weather WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS. Especially people who drive professionally - truckers, cabbies, cops. As I got closer to work, I was on a two-lane highway going about 50 mph when a black Oklahoma Highway Patrol car pulled out in front of me with no headlights on. I couldn't see him until it was almost too late. Had I been doing 60-65 I probably would have hit him. I was so angry that I pulled alongside him shaking my head. When he looked over, I pointed angrily at my headlamp. He got the point and flipped his lights on once I got back behind him.

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. LOL

Hey, great hearing from you and too bad about your weather thing. People in cars, unless they're bikers, don't think about us. Glad you made it, and I suspect you still have the Duke. I've never forgotten your white Kat. Ride safe, bro.

I always turn on my headlights when it's foggy. Heck, I turn mine on when it's dusk, early morning, or just a really cloudy day. I don't get why people don't use their headlights more when there is dense fog. It's definitely unnecessarily hazardous. Glad your okay.

As a former LEO (LAPD), it really irks me when LEOs act like they can ignore the laws that they are entrusted to inforce. That, and the internal corruption within the dept was the reason that I left.

If it were me, I would have taken the license plate # or vehicle ID if it had one and called into the station and reported it.

Here lately in Florida we have been greeted with some decently thick fog in the mornings. I use the emergency flashers when I think that I might not be visible enough.

We've had dense fog over the past week or so up here too. Somewhat rare for this area.

Thanks Zuma, I have jumped around to other bike forums but keep coming back here.

I have had two Monsters but just got a GSX-R 1000 a couple weeks ago. Back on a 'Zuki (for now)! And guess what? Planning on painting over the yellow and making it white and black just like my Kat.

Saturday night My wife and I nearly rear ended a wagon being towed in the dark by a tractor
Lots of lighting on the tractor but the wagon didnt have even a reflective slow moving triangle on it and was loaded that it completely blocked the tractor

we have had some pretty heavy fog here as well
I dont like it one bit

Lights on, pull back, cagers forget their lights.

Assume each and every cager is out to kill you.
