  • Rode 2up for the first time on the kat , hurting.

I rode 2 up on the kat last night and a few things that caught my attention. Rode about 1.5hrs, the first part being more technical and low speed, the second being more highway and speedier sections. I weigh about 220 and passenger about 120.This seemed like a fair amt of weight on the bike . It handled okay for most of the ride with tire PSI @ 41 rear , 37 front , on Dun gt501.

    - felt like the rear was going to scrape the plate.
    - front felt too soft.
    - While riding I noticed my lower back getting tight.
    - rear felt a little squirrley through a med. speed curve (30-35mph).

I was told that suzuki's have longer tanks and that makes for a longer reach. Being 5'10 I felt the difference between my buddies 06ZZR and my kat. I scooted up, had my passenger do the same and it seemed to help a bit but was less comfortable for my passenger.

This is what I am considering besides tires.
-raise the rear a bit .
-rebuild front forks w/ 1.75" PVC spacers.
-Replace rear shock with lighlty used OEM

You need to adjust your suspension for the extra weight. That other 120 pounds prolly tipped the scale for yah.

Another tip...get your li'l friend to slide back on the seat a little. That'll make it more comfortable for you when the constant vibes gives him a stiffy and you get poked! Ahhhhhh!!!!!

    Again: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

    OK, that's enough of that...

Yes my passenger was leaning on me and NO she didnt move around in the turn.

I will make the proper adjustments before going out again.

Riding with passengers just sucks.... ive been doing it alot lately. Some people I take are awesome (the light ones that dont move) but the other not so light ones that feel the need to shift around even after my pre ride briefing just make the ride no fun!

Then when they ask for a ride next time , tell them "you can't follow directions , so you can't come " . Case closed . Them's the rules . I've taken a few passengers that were bigger than I (not too hard to do ) , and as long as they didn't squirm in a turn , everything was fine . Straights are no big deal . I tell them to wait for THEM if they gottta adjust .

After having my son 2 up ... pretty much anyone else is a breeze to ride with !!!

Son is only 10 but weighs 100 pounds and either keeps squirming all over the place or falling asleep

Hmmm....Are we still talking about riding motorcycles, because that post seemed mighty pornographic to me.

Easy there, buckaroo! There are plenty of other places on the Internet to post that kind of smut.

How much should I adjust the suspension for riding 2-up? Would it be alright just to adjust the front (if so, how many clicks in which direction)? I have a '97 Kat 600. Thanks guys!
