Just bought my kid a Vega Altura helmet. Seems like alot of features for a $90 helmet. So what do you think? Anyone wear one?

It was a good "first helmet".

Pros

• Inexpensive
• Fairly lightweight
• Liner can be easily removed for washing

Cons

• If the helmet touches "anything", the paint will show "the scar"
• The visor fogs
• A little noisy when it comes to wind
• Not the greatest ventilation

I don't know how big he is and him mom isn't home. I just took him shopping and tried stuff on until we found a fit.
He's 13 (wow where did that time go!!)
Got him a Duratex jacket in grey camo, some decent leather gloves and he wears his combat boots laced to the top. Just need to get him some pants before I take him out at highway speeds.

I bought the Shuriken black last year, retired it this year
They are only DOT rated
Was really cheap, they kind of threw it in with the bike purchase
After a season of wearing it pretty much every day the lining was starting to break down
I find my Shoei is a lot quieter and much more padding
I think the Vega had better venting IMHO

Great purchase for the price and as far as the DOT I would think that it would be sufficient unless you plan on canyon carving with the kid on the back. Cruising around town I don't think snell is a must and probably no more then he will be on the bike it will last a lifetime. I went with AFX for my son because it is snell approved and was ver inexpensive. I think I paid 130-140 for his lid and my daughter wear a snell approved hjc but only because it is a hand down from her mother who just purchased a new one.

Not to jack a thread..... but seriously... I have a HJC (CSR1) only DOT.........and a ZOX ( Snell and DOT.) Other than for the track?????? what's the difference???? Just curious.
