  • Back Protectors?

Does anyone here use/wear back protectors while they're out riding? I was just browsing around ebay and came across them and was curious as to everyone's take on them. For those who like and use them, which brands would you recommend?

I have one but have no idea what brand it is. I won an ebay auction for a JR Speedmaster jacket, JR pants and AGV Sports gloves and the seller threw in the back protector. I usually only wear when I go out for a 'recreational' ride, not just when I'm going back and forth to work. (unless I turn that into a 'recreational ride')
    I miss my Gixxer

I have a teknic 4 plate, wear it every time I ride..... but I wear full gear every time I ride. Great extra protection and the large velcro straps that wrap around work similar to a weight belt to help reduce back fatigue.

I'm actually looking at getting a new one because my current one really only cover my lower back and I want more protection. I think I am going to go with the Bohn this time. I've heard nothing but outstanding reviews of them.

That is the main reason for me getting one, the back support. I am not as young as I used to be and I've been torn up

I grabbed an alpinestars back protector off ebay this winter.
We've seen a lot of different back protectors through our shop in the last couple years, but I can say with confidence that this model is the best I've seen...

This one is a bit to long for me and digs into the back of my neck a bit so I may have to go down a size.

            Anyone have a medium lol?

Thanks for the responses! It looks like I have some research to do about them. Since my jacket doesn't have back protection, I've been contimplating picking one of these up. Just thought I'd get some opinions from those who have first hand experience! Any other opinions and suggestions are more than welcome!

Yes another piece of gear worth the purchase and pray you don't have to use it.

I believe my JR Jacket has one built in, or is that just padding?

JR's only have dual-density foam padding and not hard-sided GP-style protectors. On the other hand, most JR products have access so you can swap out the protectors for upgraded ones

                      Hey Lou and Cyber

I have the Balistic and I don't have space in the back for a protector there but I do in the shoulders and elbows.

                        Hmmm... Ouch!
You could wear a standard external back protector over it.
Or consider a move to a perforated leather jacket instead (JR Sonic perforated, JR Blaster Perforated, etc), which will still breath but offer you better protection.

                        Cheers

In the future both the perforated and two piece leather are in the plan!!! I do have a back protector now and I have to lose a couple of pounds to get it under my jacket.

A few companies offer perforated two-piece systems. Note that JR's "Highside" full leathers go very bad reviews in Europe from a number of test riders who actually went down in them -- said the stitching gave out in a number of critical places.

PS - what size are you? I still have a 42 or 44 perforated sonic that needs a good home.

                            Good Luck!
