No spark on cylinder #3

No spark on cylinder #3

Dyna 3ohm coils
Dyna 2000 ignition system


Cylinders 1, 2, 4 are getting spark and firing

-
Replaced spark plug

1 & 4 coil @ 13.8v
2 & 4 coil @ 13.8v

12.84v battery voltage with the bike off

15.09v battery voltage with the bike on

If I hold the coil wire and ground my self to the frame I can feel the pulse of voltage

I cannot see a spark with the plug out of the engine


Cylinder #3 is cold enough for me to grab with my hand,
1 2 & 4 would give me 3d degree burns


Original plug with 1,200 miles on it.
The plug I just put in still hasnt ignited and looks new

Did you resolve the #3 issue? I didn't get that from the post, so... ?

If not, you probably just need to clip back the plug wire and screw the boot back on. It's remotely possible though the boot is bad, and needs replaced.

If clipping the wire back, take off just enough to soft wire. Engine heat will bake the wires and harden the ends where the plugs screw on. That generally will cause connection issues, and thus... spark issues.

I still havent fixed the #3 issue

I tried swapping the plug wires and even measuring the voltage at the end of the plug wire.

Everything checks out okay, I dont understand why i'm not getting spark at the plug


I broke down and called my tow company to take it back to Pro Stock Performance and Dyno


I guess it time to let the professional fix it.

It was the coil pack all along.

My brand new dyna coil faild

I swapped it for on of the coils i have from my turbo gsxr project and it runs great.

Ken said he has never seen a coil where only a single cylinder has weak/no spark, that they always fail two at a time.


Pro Stock Performance and Dyno handled everything for no cost!

I'll get the RMA coil in a week or so.

Hopefully thats the end of it.

I've heard Dyna coils fail on a regular basis when it comes to everday driver that is, and should only be used for track duty. So, best stick with stock coils for street duty. Something to the effect of resistance or something....yadda, yadda, yadda
