  • 1997 frame, 2005 engine

I am a bit overwhelmed with all of the information on this site...

I am helping my son get his bike back on the road.

He has a 1997 GSX 600F and blew the engine.

I got a 2005 engine and wiring harness for him.

    Pretty much everything is different.

Can anyone point me to some resources that will help us get this engine and the wiring installed and safely working?

    Thanks a ton!

You could go into the search and put in motor swap and navigate from there. Others maybe able to post an exact link to help you but I am not that computer savy. Hope it helps. Btw welcome to the forum and good luck!

Shouldn,t be different other than the color. just pull your motor and install the new motor using your old carbs. The pickup coil may be different.

I would suggest you do the following....

        Keep the 97 wiring harness.
Use the 97 carbs and engine boots on the new engine.
Pull the old engine out. Swap the alternator from the old engine into the new engine.
Swap the kickstand saftey switch with a post saftey switch.

        Now everything matches up...
