  • modify/aftermarket kickstand?

my katana was lowered by the prev owner. now, when i use the kickstand, the bike doesn't lean much at all, sits nearly straight up. anything i can do to remedy this? i don't trust it at all when sitting straight up, and i've accidentally barely bumped it twice and had to catch it from falling. does anyone make an aftermarket kickstand or is there an adjustment at all on the stock on?

he is write you will have to cut a section and weld . the after market one come in stock size . there is one company i know of that do size them but last time i checked not for the katana and it was more for hogs and it would be less money you cut it straight .grind it even and send it to weld for about 10 or 15 buck then re paint it just dont cut to much

a friend at work told me that i should heat the bottom with a torch and bend it more, then let it cool. problem with that is that the part that sits on the ground will extend out more from the side when the stand is up. that'll just be something to scrape on turns. i'll see what a welder can do for me, thanks for the ideas!

Get a spare one off eBay or from SpecialK, send it out to be cut and welded (that way you don't live without -- unless you still have the centerstand). Because of the metal used, many lesser welders won't want to deal with it, but good welders will be able to do it right. Or, reraise the bike to the stock size -- there's always someone who will trade you the longer dogbone you have for the stock one.

Whatever you do, don't simply heat and bend the kickstand -- the last thing you want is something sticking out that can grab your pant leg at the wrong time, and you risk damaging the pivot mechanism if you do it on the bike.

                Cheers

Cyber, can you set him up with someone that does chrome work?
Are you in Florida now or Germany? I thought you might be in Florida this time of year.

I'm in Florida. There are different kinds of "chrome" work -- are you looking for an electroplater (i.e. - onto metal), a vacuum-depositor (chrome onto plasrtic), or a do-it-yourself kit? My normal response is to ask around your area for who does good work -- the boys at the local automotive hot rod shop will usually know, as will most restorers and upholstry shops in the area (I ask for references from those who use such services, especially guys in similar industries).

                    Cheers

                        Why???

I sure wouldn't object to being there. But I might skip riding most days unless I borrow my friend's BMW 1150GS Adventure (heated seat, heated grips, hand shields, huge windsheild) or something similiarly configured for the cold.

                        Cheers

That right there explains it, isn't a winter wonderland right now? I would be in the warmer of the two climates if I had the choice. The one reason I haven't gone back to Ohio yet. It is bad enough we have had 3 days of rain here in Phoenix.
