carb sync screw springs

while bench syncing my '95 kat750, I'm having trouble syncing 1/2 to 3/4. I used the heavy sync screw spring on the screw and the lighter spring between the two tabs but I suspect this is my problem and needs to be reversed so as to push the pair of butterflys back harder against the sync screw itself. I put all three sync screws together this way and see that I need very little adjustment on the screw to sync them so this also tells me problem.. I didn't see the proper spring orientation addressed in carbs 101..
