  • Starter buton in-op on '88 600

Last season my starter button stopped working on the bike (of course on a long trip). Is this common at all? I need to fix it up before the snow leaves.

To get by this I quicky rigged a wire from the trigger side of the solenoid that ended just by the battery. Everything is bypassed, key, button the works.

Crap gets into the switches and goofs them up.
Try disassembling the pod and cleaning the switch.
Then add some "bulb gease" (Dielectric lube)
to help keep the gremlins away..
Also look for frayed wires coming out of the pod or
in the area where the bundle goes through the forks
    over the engine..

I had a "new" bike do that.
I was starting it by shorting the solenoid with a
penny.. Then I got stopped by Phoenix PD...
He asked me to cut the engine
Thankfully he pulled away (got a fix-it ticket.. No
current plate tag..) before I had to hot wire it!

I would assume that any starter button would replace it. The button pretty much just touches two wires together to complete circuit. Maybe ask Cyberpoet..

My new life philosophy is "WWmd86D?"

I was thinking just throw out the whole starter to save weight and bump start it every time.

            It's times like that I
            mourn the lost kick starter...

Update: Yes it was the button itself, the contacts were corroded, i touched them up with some fine sandpaper and they looke like new (and work like new now). Also added some dielectric grease. No more lifting the seat to start it lol.
