  • Carb rebuild kit?

Is there a standard carb rebuild kit I can order for a '94 600? While the floats & jets are fine and everything came off the bike looking super clean (there's next to no cleaning to do on this one surprisingly), pretty much every seal, gasket, and hose from the carbs are shot. Instead of piecing together every little part I was hoping there would be a complete seal and gasket kit...

That K&L kit is the best you can get. However, you still need a few other things too. 4 pilot jet plugs for sure.

Pilot jet plugs.....is that something on the pre-'97 carbs only?

And fuel T seals, 8 of them. sync port caps, 4 of them.

It's actually 4 fuel T seals. You only need them if you're separating the carbs. By the "there's next to no cleaning to do on this one surprisingly", I kind of doubt you're going to do that. You only need to replace the sync port caps if they are cracked/dry rotted.

No, the vent T's don't have them. If not replacing parts that don't need to be replaced is doing a "halfass" job, I've been halfassing shit my whole life.

I always used to replace all kinds of extra stuff thinking it was the right thing to do. Comes from growing up with auto mechanics where the thinking is oh, you have 1 bearing bad, better do all of them, etc.

Then I started working with A&Ps on airplanes. They don't replace *anything* unless it's down to wear limits/looks bad. They all even reuse cotter pins as long as they're still flexible! I started doing the same practice on my car and realized how much money I'd been wasting... My experience since then is even that the simple "replace 2 headlights at the same time because if one fails the other is about to" is wrong, nevermind more complex (and labor expensive) issues like wheel bearings!

I'm debating on that. That's the point I'm at right now and have halted while I consider. I started this process because I had a big fuel leak that seamed to be from *somewhere* around the carbs (and there was obvious evidence of leaks from the bowls, but NOT in the quantity I saw gushing down the side of the bike). So, at least simple carb rebuilds were needed. However, I have not positively identified the source of the original problem. While separating them looks like it may be unnecessary, I'd be really sad if I got everything back together only to find that some seal there was the main issue that got me started down this path...

It's astounding how clean it is too. Seriously, other than these bad seals/gaskets so far, the surfaces are all super clean. As in "could pass for new". Carbs had not been touched since I got it and it was sitting for 2 years unused out in a yard before then. I did 3 years of riding, but I do Seafoam it at the beginning of each season.

Well, guess I'm off to my LBS next chance I get... Tried to order the kit as listed online, but my credit card is being rejected. Stupid Visa, they periodically reject legit parts I'm trying to buy, but when my card number is stolen and used at an Escort Service on the other side of the country, THAT they let go through. Argh.
