  • Our bikes!! 101

And most of todays bikes have three general systems to make them work.
    A starting system
    A charging system
    A ignition system
These three system's work together and stand alone to make a motorcycle go. We will be building a complete 101 on mow each system works, in general and in debth. These three systems are very simple in their design but can be scary also. Reason for the fear is the fact that they are very much electrical and most people are frightened by electric.

You might consider also addressing the lighting and accessories as a separate system. That's where people make the most mods (oil temp gauges, relays and beefy wires for hi-watt headlamps, blinkie LED taillights) so some guidance would be helpful.

But those "extra" systems aren't actually necessary to make a bike move under it's own power , which I believe is the issue Thom's trying to address .

Yes MD86, you are correct. There are many of us that love to do many mod's. Electrical and so on, I personally have two taillight bulbs in my pre98 750, which has really added to the brightness of the brake light.

How'd you manage the 2 bulbs? did you get an extra socket and took a dremmel to the housing?

I had a complete set from a TLR I got off ebay. The taillight itself won't work but the lights did. I cut to fit and as you can see in the second picture, I had to do some plastic welding. This has lasted a season and a half so far. I am not easy on my bike either, I do squid some
