95 Kat 600 - 2nd gear broken

I have a 95 Kat installed in a home built go-kart of sorts. I just encountered the "infamous" 2nd gear problem. I have the cases split and I'm ready to order parts. My question to those in the know is: While in here, are there other systemic problems I should address?

I also notice that the microfische on Ron Ayers site shows two 2nd gears for a the 95 model. Is one a heavy duty gear? Anyone know the skinny on the part number situation?
