  • Fuel Guage

I just got a Katana and the fuel gauge fluctuates wildly. The first fill up it went to full and seemed to work ok. It was all highway miles all at once. The second fill up. I think it went to full. After about 50 miles, I parked it and when I came out it read almost empty. I filled it up and it went almost to full. Then after 20 miles it read empty again. There is still plenty of fuel in the tank. When I ride it goes from near full to empty and back again a lot. This is with only about 20 miles on the tank.

    It this normal?

No, that's not normal. You need a new fuel level sender unit.

Or the connection is spotty .... Hook a multimeter up to the sending unit wires , pull the float up and down , and see if the impedance moves up & down all nice-like , or if it jumps erratically .
