  • Help!

I picked up a set of carbs off of a 93 GSXR 600 for my 93 Kat 600.
I needed a new set of carbs because the guy i bought the bike from F'ed up the ones on the bike bad. I got a really good deal on them, couldnt afford a set for a kat. Problem is they dont line up with the intake boots. They are spaced about 3/8" wider. Can i use a set of boots off a GSXR to correct the problem? I noticed the ones on the bike are off set, and the GSXR ones are straight. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Without looking them up, I don't think they're likely to work. However... You might be able to sell them on E-Bay for enough to buy a set of Kat carbs. What-all is wrong with your originals that you can't fix them, anyway?

        Check this out

Nope no fixin the old ones. The guy tried to pull the butterflies for god knows why and it looks like he used a pair of vice grips to do it. It chewed up the butterflies bad and bent them. He also tried to pull the brass tubes out that run up the sides of the carbs and collapsed them. But i decided to go mad scientist on the GSXR carbs. I now have about 6-8 hours worth of work in them. The GSXR carbs have a wider bore diameter but the outside diameter was the same where they go into the intake boot. I separated all the carbs and stripped them down.Since the carb brackets were wider i had to mount them to the Kat brackets which invovled machining down the fuel inlets, and vents. The throttle shafts were to long for the brackets so i pulled all the butterflies on both sets and used the shafts out of the Kat carbs which are about 3/8" shorter. Since the Kat butterflies were smaller i had to widen the slot in the shaft so the GSXR butterflies would fit. Reassembled and they fit on the motor now. Its midnight here so i will start it tomorrow and see how she runs. It should be fine. The mains are a little bigger which is fine because the carbs are bigger but the secondaries are the same since both sets were off of a 600. I will try to post some pics for those of you who are confused. Had to do something that no man in his right mind would try. Thank you Pabst Blue Ribbon for gettin the creative juices flowin. Amazing the things we can do when there's beer involved!

Looking forward to hearing how they work.
