  • CARBS: Ever Stripped a Pilot Jet?

Well, I did, and I came out relatively unscathed with the help of a $1.00 Black and Decker #1 extractor from Home Depot and a little patience.

    What it should look like:

What it ended up looking like:

As it would happen, the soft brass screw decided to snap as I was trying to remove it. At first I was afraid, I was petrified! But then I decided to try using an extractor 43e3f347-f47f-4e58-81dc-4bb52d1151e7_400.jpg , which I have never done before. Turns out it was a breeze!

All you need is a steady hand, a drill bit (3/32) to make a pilot hole slightly smaller than the extractor tip (item #16271), grab a hammer and mildly tap it it, unscrew and BINGO!

I saved myself a boatload of time and money, and now hopefully you can too!

yep, those things are great. I prefer the ones that are not spiraled. they are kinda a tapered square, with a slight cutting edge on them. i have found the spiral ones sometimes dig in and try to screw so far into something (especially soft like brass) and actually increase the force needed to remove, sometimes breaking the extractor.
