  • OIL

I just bought a 96 750 Katana. What oil is recommended? The previous owner was using Bardahl 20-50. Thanks for any help.

You can find everything you need here:

CyberPoet's "How to understand and choose Motorcycle Motor Oils" at MotorcycleAnchor.com, fabrication & sales of motorcycle security solutions.

    In general:
10w40 unless the temps are so hot that it's uncomfortable to stand barefoot on asphault -- then use 20w50.
API SF/SG or SH rated oils. No SJ/SL/SK rated ones.
JASO MA rated is a bonus, but highly recommended.

There's a long list of motorcycle oils that match these specs, including:
    Castrol ACT Evo
    Castrol GPS
    Mobil 1 MX4T
    Mobil 1 VTwin
    Royal Purple CycleMax
    Motorex
    Valvoline ATV
    Valvoline Motorcycle
    etc.

    Cheers

I had picked up Valvoline motorcycle oil at an Auto Zone a couple of months ago (and am presently in the midst of oil pan issues, as CP may recall). That oil can states:
        Valvoline
        SAE 10W-40
        Meets or exceeds
        JASO MA, API SF/SG/SJ
