  • CAT part for my Kat

So I decided to try the budget throttle lock made by Catipillar
The part number 8M4991 for the yellow o-ring was suggested in several places I went with the 5H7370 black version

I had to order overnight because the local CAT dealer did not stock it

I went in to pick it up after work tonight and was questioned by the counter guy as to what it fit because they had never stocked it before and thought maybe they should start

I told him it fits a Suzuki motorcycle the look of WTF came across his face
he asked how the heck did I ever figure that out
I responded the internet DUH!! J/K about the DUH

It was funny though , when I googled the part# it took me to just as many motor cycle sites as CAT sites

Awesome, now you gotta put a CAT sticker on your bike somewhere, and you can tell people you bought Suzuki's industrial version of the Kat.

                yes
the o ring binds the grip against the bar end
as I see it the only down fall is that you need to twist throtle both ways

it seams to be a very tough compound compared to the automotive o rings I have ever seen

If you read the whole thread from that link posted it says that the yellow O-ring is a hybrid silicate that will virtually never wear out. So you could use a different one of the right size, but it will not last as long due to dry rotting, cracking, etc. They also mentioned that with the "cat yellow" it is easier to see and will help remind you when you have it engaged or not engaged. The last thing they mentioned was the cross-section thickness of that particular O-ring makes it easier to deal with when wearing gloves to roll it into position and back.

                          Someone did their O-ring homework!

I forgot all about this. I pass the CAT dealer everyday. I'm going to check it out and give it a shot.

It worked really well and for $3.50 it was the best money I have ever spent on the Kat
It was a little tough to roll into place will gloves on on the highway
Would be a lot easier to do at the last stop light before getting on the highway
Will take some getting use to when changing gears
Felt weird to be able to rest right hand on the tank

I was going to buy them , figuered I did not need 10 of them and figuered I would go with OE CAT for probably a better compound but I guess you will have 9 spares LOL
Or 8 spares if you put one on the left grip to be symetrical
