Anyone know what this piece does inside the petcock, or rather what it used to do before I snapped it?

I have a bad feeling it pushes the metal part of the diaphragm to let the fuel flow on Prime.

It's a spring that pushes the diaphragm when you put it on prime , yeah .Bummer . Maybe you can still make it work somehow .....

Well I do have my brothers old petcock, I'll just rebuild that one instead. I was able to take that one apart without braking it.

      Thanks

If you break that part (like you did) it's toast pretty much for working again. But, the other parts can be used off it... I know someone was looking for the selector knob for theirs a while back. So, it's not nessasarily a thow away thing.
