2-1/2 turns is a common number for the idle circuit, a.k.a. air/fuel screw.

There is no standard number with those screws because you need a manometer to properly sync them together. It's not like you turn them x-amount of turn in or out to get them snyced together.
To get a starting point prior to syncing them, as if you dismantled them, you'll need to remove the carbs and visual observe the butterfly valve while you turn the snyc screws. Right at the bottom where the butterfly valve touches closed is a very small hole. The valves should just cover half that hole. Then from that point you'll need to sync them with the manometer.

I guess i'm having problems getting it to idel correctly... I was turning the screw on 1/2 and the bike reved up way high. I have the stupid *** vac gauges and they bounce so its hard to see when your going the right direction... i was adjusting them now its WAY out of tune

I have to ask, you are sync-ing carbs 1 & 2 together, then sync-ing 3 & 4 together, then sync-ing 2 & 3 together?

If the vac gauges are bouncing a lot you need a restrictor in each line to smooth out the intake pulses. If you are cheap then clamp down on each line with vice grips or similar gently until the gauge smooths out. QED.Chris

It revved way up high 'cause you was usin the wrong screwdriver and/or putting pressure on the screw as you turned . With the proper screwdriver (stock toolkit one is GREAT for this) , no need to press hard , and hence , no high-revving .

And one more question.
you mention having trouble getting it to idle?
Carb sync normal doesn't effect idle...it might effect how SMOOTH it idles or runs, but my carbs were WAY out of sync on my old 600 engine and it idled fine AFTER I took the carbs apart (4) times and cleaned 'em.
And you are doing the sync with the idle set at 1800 RPM right?

there's no way on God's green earth you're gonna get a good sync without a good rock steadly idle. clean clean clean the carbs (pilot circuit especially), get a GOOD idle, then sync. did i say clean the carbs?99% of the questions asked here can be answered by a 2 minute search in the service manual.
