  • another petcock problem

Well I'm taking apart my kat today because of a fuel leak problem I've been having. I've noticed some fuel spots from the side of my kat when parked and riders telling me they smell fuel leaking so I decided to inspect today. The problem and questions point out to what seems to me a screwed up petcock. The problem i'm having is when I turn the Kat on, under the pet cock there seems to be a hole underneath what I think is called the Diaphram (lthe white plastic part located in undershot of petcock, correct me if I'm wrong please) and it sprays out pretty rapidly wether its on on, res or pri.

anybody know what the heck is going on and I'm thinking this isn't normal right?
I've been searching on the site to include the wiki and other petcock problems too and I see CP has a pre rebuild that may help out on a post. would this rebuild be sufficient to fix this prob? or should I buy a new petcock.

I would say look into the rebuild first.

The pre- rebuild WILL fix your issue...

From my how to posting thread, you will see the following parts are the same....

A forum filled with write-ups, FAQ's, and visual aids for
mechanical & cosmetic modifications to your Katana.

The plastic spacer, and the diaphram that goes around it that controles the stopper for the gas inside the petcock.

Here you can see me pulling them apart...

And here you can see them sitting side by side....

Here is the rebuild part put back in as I'm about to re-install the new...

      The issue you have....

Your diaphram is torn/pin holes in it... allowing gas past.. the hole is designed to allow it to go somewhere, so that your petcock will still function.

Post a pic. Doesn't sound right to me... but let me check the micro fiche for that year...

Well, look at that.. 600 and 750 had different petcocks for that year. 89 600 was a single. I've never seen one in person, and the fiche doesn't break it down into parts.

the 89 was a single and I didn't remember seeing a spacer on that tank when I sold it. Maybe it has something to do with the dual outlets??
