  • removing gas tank -tips?

    Hi,

When removing the gas tank on a 89 Katana, will the tank leak gas or does the "vacuum valve" stay close and prevent the gas from coming out??

Thanks for any advice, i need to change spark plugs soon. Also any tips.

Correct, gas will not flow out if in the on position due to the vaccum. When you first disconnect the lines, the gas already in the lines will come out. I believe gas will flow only if it's on the PRI or prime position(correct me if I'm wrong).
When I change my plugs I actually just unbolt the tank, move it back-resting it sideways on the fairings. I don't undo any of the gas lines. That gives me enough room to change the plugs-I've got a 91.
    Good luck.

As long as your petcock isn't bad no gas should leak out

I also have an 89 and it needed replacing when I began working on it.
