So I did the first oil & filter, plug, change on my recently purchased 97 kat. I was amazed, the boot that slips over the plugs was just "sitting" loosely on top of the old plugs. Amazed that the bike ran, but now the roughness makes sense. Also had to replace the short fuel line because there was a split and slight leak.
Took her out for a spin and the performance was much smoother. I am going to have to paint but I figured to wiat until winter (no problems riding with two diff color fairings, helps keep me humble.

Next step is to identify the exact location of the slight oil leak. Im hoping its not head kindo looks like a valve cover area, but all oil is in the front top of the engine. Just above the front tire.

valve cover is probably a pretty good bet.

Yep, valve cover leak is common, change the gasket, very easy job.

I snapped a picture, in it one can see where the oil runs down the block, and near the top is near where i think the small leak begins. Leak isnt bad, only when I run the bike for a while is it easily seen.

Here we are reaping the fruits of our labor (notice her pink riding jacket complete with removeable armor....we rode for about 20 feet on a dead end road, I dont feel it safe for a 5 year old to be out and about) Oh and my suit was not on I didnt feel it necessay to boot, jacket, and pants up for a 20 foot pop...

leaks will not usually travel upwards or forward of source due to gravity and wind
