Sounds like a case of bad insulation on one of the wires. Tricky to track-down if it's heat temperamental, but the insulation should still be soft to the touch/maleable if cold. First suspects are the wires to the side-stand switch and to the signal generator.
Secondary suspects are the pins in the multi-pin connectors above the headlights.
