  • Handlebar end screw won't come out!

I bought new handlebar ends for my '05 750 and i can't even turn the screws on the end of the handlebars! I've tapped the screwdriver with with a hammer to maybe knock it loose, and i've clamped a vise-grip on the screwdriver and pushed as hard is i can while twisting and the screw won't budge.

    Any suggestions?

impact DRIVER , not wrench . Can be had for less than $20 at many auto parts stores . Coincidentally , many auto store employees do not know the difference between an impact wrench and impact driver , so you probably SHOULD before you get there .....

You used to wrong bit . If you can find a way to cut notches into it & try again with the impact wrench , this time spraying liberally with PB Blaster first ....

The bit was plenty snug in there. that screw so friggin tight in there. anything i can do with a screw that is pretty much rounded in the middle? lol

Try a bigger bit in the impact driver. I move #2 screws with the #3 bit pretty frequently. Pull the bars and hold them upright on a workbench after spraying some PB Blaster in from the back end. Set the driver bit in there and put a little C-Cwise preload on the driver. If the bit won't grab at all then try driving it into the screw head without the driver first just to make it grab. When you use the driver to break a screw loose whack the snot out of the driver. Don't be shy. Hit it hard the first time. The bit will wedge its way in there and actually un-f**k the slots on the screw head.

Try putting some kind of strap wrench around the bar end and spinning the whole thing. Chances are it will break the screw loose with it. Heck, you could probably use a big *** pipe wrench.

After you get it out you should replace it with a socket head cap screw then you never have to worry about it again.

When I got mine they were aleady stripped. What I did was drill the end of the screw head out, then the bar end will slide off and you can put visegrips on the remaining screw shaft.
