    Engine swap

    Ok, I've read the swap article and know I have a question. I have a 2006 and it will be paid off this summer. I want to play around a little bit with it. Is it possible to swap in a GSXR750? If so what years should I be looking for? Is it still the years that was in the article? If I want to build a pretty quick bike would this be the motor to swap to, or a 1200 Bandit? I ride my Kat pretty much rain, some snow, will pretty much all the time. So it has to be reliable.

    The 750 motor would be WAY more friendly maintenance wise than an 1100 or 1200 because you will still be able to get the valve cover off without having to drop the front of the motor (as in unbolting motor mounts). Any oil cooled 750 is a go, GSXR or Katana. If you want to build HP try to stay away from the shim valve adjust 750 & 1100 heads as the cams are more expensive & at high rpm they are known to spit shims out & tear up all KINDS of parts. Any of the air/oil cooled 750/1100/1200 engines have TONS of hot rod parts available & getting 200 hp at the rear wheel is fairly easy, not CHEAP, but EASY! That is, if you know an engine builder. I am an engine builder & dragracer. I have built a few 600/1255-1371 sleepers & they sure do surprise people! Ray.

      What years do I need, or need to stay away from on the 750GSXR? Do you know if the speedo will work?

        The shim valve adjust oil cooled GSXRs were 91 & 92 750s & 1100s. Ray.
