bout a month back i was having probs with the bike. i said i was going to order a needle and seat and a float. well i did, i put the parts on the bike and it runs the same. at first it will crank up but after a while it dies. if i try and choke it, it dies. also, when i take the top hose off of the air box it seems to run fine, when i put that top hose back on it dies. is there supposed to be gas flowing the the airbox? was i supposed to do something with the needle and seat and float? its not the spark plugs cus i got new ones and it ran the same, too. irridiums to be exact. so, any feedback is much appreciated. thanks.

Question - if your floats were flooding fuel into the oil, did you change your oil after fixing the float issue? Enough fuel to cause it to run that rich would imply that the oil needs to be changed.
On a separate note, disconnecting that hose would also induce a really large vacuum leak. If the bike won't idle healthy with the hose connected, but will with it disconnected, then I would immediately suspect the jetting is way, way off...

i havent changed the oil yet. how would i adjust the jetting? i took the carbs off and i fixed the foat height, can it be a lil off or does it have to be exact? so, if i change the oil the bike will run, or is that just something to help it not break anymore. but yea, i have to adjust the jetting?1994 Katana frame with 2001 Motor and Fairings.

Floats have to be within 1mm of where they should be; the further off they are, the more it will change the way it fuels. Personally, I'd want them spot-on.
Jetting:
Pilot jets - size, plus number of turns on the screws. These are the only jets that affect idle.
Main jets - size
Needles - clip position, number of shims.

If your oil is saturated in fuel, fumes will get into the combustion chamber and it will be like flooding your bike thus fouling your plugs again. Change your oil but make sure the problem of fuel getting into your oil is fixed also. I had that happen once and changed the oil, bam ran like a champ.Must read for carb tuners......http://www.factorypro.com/tech/tech_...m_engines.html

Also see this thread (http://katriders.com/vb/showthread.php?t=96297 ) and the threads it points at for more details, better understanding.

If item #14 in the fiche is installed, then you need to fix the petcock AND the floats. Go look at the Carbs 101 thread...
