  • new front tire, how to get rim off.

    ok.....

i dont have a winter kicker or a lil race lift for my bike, but i just got a new front tire.

i need to lift the bike off the ground.
would it be ok to tie fopes to the frame and suspend it in the air??
will the fram be able to hold there for a night? or am i looking at a disaster?

if any one has a better idea, thats safer or easier, pleez chime in...

Hanging it from the front of the frame will be fine... Heck, you'd be fine to hang it from the clip-ons, even...

Or, you could even put the bike on the center stand and tie down the rear to keep the front up...

Another dirty method is also avalible. If you have access to a pick up truck, have a buddy help you load the bike into the truck backwards, with the front tire pointing back. Get some good tiedowns and secure the bike to the truck and then you can safely use a floorjack to raise the front tire off the ground (truckbed).

I just put mine on the centerstand then block up the engine.. Once I have a few 2X4s in place it is easy to lift the front end up and slip in another block.

Centerstand , then a cinder block on the luggage rack . Like that it onlt takes SLIGHT pressure to raise the front . Easy to raise with one hand while I slip another block under the fork to keep it there .

not to be an assherem, but when i say winter kicker i mean center stand, i Have a D&D full exhaust that the downpipe forces you to take off the center stand.

ill try both methods, but without centerstand, anyone else got some good ideas?

                      good news

                      welp..........

i got my front tire off, by suspending the bike on an I beam @ my friends house and took off the rim.

also this was on a saturday. an sunday was the most nicest day ever so i motivated and frustrated enough to try to put the tire on myself, also get the old tire off.

with my dads help, and 2 friends, we were able to break the seal using a cro/breaker bar, and popped the old tire off.

ysed WD40 arround the new tire and a flame to expand the bead on the new tire....( my dads idea...i dont condone this, i would have used a air pump but it was cool )

mounted the rim back on the bike, and didnt even need the rims balanced, the tires work awesome.

                      i got avon azaro st.....awesome tire.....awesome grip.
thanks for all the help guys. great help, all with the use of the search bar looked up an old thread about tire replacement DIY.

I just changed my tired over the weekend and it was super easy. The only thing I did not anticipate was having to remove the brake calipers to get the front wheel off (which was a 20 second, 4 bolt task).

My new meats are a vast improvement from the stock macadems I took off. I recommend Pirelli Diablo Stratas to anyone looking for new rubbers.

andrehendricken, I do it like that also, I use jack stands on the lower frame bars after (remove lower fairing first ) this way the jack doesn't get in the way and you end up with a solid 4 point hold. Later...
