Bike won't go...

So my bike starts up, but once I put it into gear the engine stops? Not sure why, I rode it fine earlier today, and now this, very frustrating. Also my electric starter doesn't rev the bike everytime I push it, sometimes I have to push it for what seems like 20 times and then it will rev and start up, not sure what is happening, can anyone help?

Stalls in gear .... sidestand up ?
Starter spinning intermittently ..... Dirty switch/wiring or iffy battery most likely causes .....
