    (A) You shouldn't need a sender, just that gasket, I would imagine.
    (B) If the gasket is old and thus has soaked up anything (absorbed water for example), it might expand and contract as the humidity level & temps changes. Or the metal around it might and it might not be able to keep up with the changes any more after over a decade of service
    (C) You might be able to salvage the old one with some red rubber grease if it's not too bad (or just with tightening the mounting/mating bolts or screws for that matter ).
