i looked for this type of thread but couldn't find it. i've got an 01 600 kat. whenever i put the key into the ignition and try to start the bike, it takes for ever to get the key to move. as my high school mechanics teacher says, you've got to hold your mouth just right. sometimes it'll turn on the first try. other times i have to push down, let up, turn it. it just doesn't ever turn very easily. don't know what to do, very frustrating!!!

Your lock needs lube, and your key is probably worn... my guess is that the key works on one side that is cut real well (very close to the original), and the other side's cut is a hair off... or worn away...
Meanwhile, lock lubes:
Graphite. It doesn't freeze, doesn't attract water, and it helps keep the tumblers moving just fine.

i've only got one key. should i have another one made. i've tried flipping key over and it does not seem to do any better. i'll try graphite and see if that helps.R.I.P. Marc- You will be missed!

In my case, I already had a full back-up replacement; ignition, gas tank and seat lock. The helmet lock I don't used so I did not bother replacing it.

Dealer-only item. Quite a PIA to replace because of the location of the lock-release anti-tamper screws.
