  • Valve adjustment?

Does the Trinc's How to subject cover the early Kat's on valve adjustments or just the 98+? Iasked on that subject but no one ever got back to me. I need to know cause my vavletrain is nooooiiiiiiiisssssyyyyyyy! TICK TICK TICK.
It's not speed that kills, it's trying to stop!

    88-91 600s and all the pre98 750s are similar to the 98+...

Specs are 0.10-0.15 (0.004-0.006 in) on intake and exhaust for the pre98 600s though..

Are you sure those specs are 100% on? I find that hard if not impossible to believe (that the intake and exhaust specs would be identical -- since the exhaust valve gets really hot and expands further, while the intake valve is repeatedly cooled by the inbound charge).

Pre 98 750s use nut/screw. Not sure on the 600s.

Trinc Pre 98's are screw type, that's one of the reasons I bought one

Yellow got the year ranges for shims vs. nut-adjusters right.

                600: 88-91 screws, 92-97 shims
(according to the fiches, and seems to be correct with what I've seen so far)

My Haynes says 0.10-0.15 mm for all the valves, and I doubt it's a typo since some other engines (some GSXR years) have similar specs. I would be interested to hear what the more experienced 88-91 600 owners adjust theirs to...

Thank you, cause I was told by the prevous owner that it was shims and expensive, I can do the screw type myself.

Well if he told you it has shims - maybe somebody put on a later model head on it, or they started out with the shim heads on late 91s...

There is only one way to find out for sure...

He called a shop and they told him it was shims and that it was a trial and error process, putin shims put it together, start it. If it ticks take it back apart and redo it. Which I thought was bull, I figured you would put in shims and use a feeler gauge. I thought the shop was tring to get extra $. My friend I bought it from never had it apart. So I bet it's a screw type.

Yup to the bold part. Either that, or he took it to a dealer that doesn't normally work on Suzuki's (say a Ducati dealer or a Harley dealer) and they simply didn't know any better.
