  • 1989 coil problems

I have a 1989 Suzuki Katana 750 and the coil have gone bad. I need to replace them and I was just wondering how difficult this will be?? If anybody know please let me know.

one of the easier jobs on the Kat..
Your bike is pretty old though so be very careful with the clips that hold the spark plug wires.
They could be brittle and break on you,

Pull the wires from the plugs, take out the two
10mm screws holding the coils (dont lose the spacers!!!!) and take the whole mess over to a table to remove the wires.

Bike bandit shows these clips as part of the coil,
double check that your replacement ones have them..

Thanks man. Is there a website that shows how to do it step by step.

Its fairly easy. Nothing really step by step. Your just unplugging one thing, and plugging it into the same spot on your new ones. Each coil is held in by 2 screws. Walaa. If I get to the hanger I'll take pics of what I mean, or maybe someone else that is close to there bike can take pics.

Well , with it being such an easy job (as others have already stated) , ad you're STILL this worried about doing it , maybe you should let someone else handle it ... It really isn't that hard . It's a bit of a pain GETTING to the coils , but that's about it really .

                    Md86 is right..
                    I'm so glad I don't have to:
                    remove the screen
                    remove the turn signals
                    remove the mirrors
                    remove the lower fairing
                    remove the main fairing.

Damn.. that alone takes more time then changing the coils!
Then you get to put it all back on!!

All that shit is already taken off. All i have now is a naked stripped down bike. I have already changed the coils. It was easier than shit, just take your time and it is a snap.

Alright look , you don't have to take off that much crap to get under there ! Just 3 fairing bolts to loosen the tank enough to slide it out of the way , really . Takes maybe 5-10 extra minutes . You're not removing the engine for cripes sake ! And see , we told ya it would be easy !

Have you thought about replaceing them with a set of aftermarket coils? you can pick them uo for about $160 from dennis kirk.
