New Gauge Faces. Questions and Curiosities

I would love to have white gauges with black digits on my speedomeer and Tach. Not too concerned about clock and fuel gauge. Question is:
Do I have to buy the Illumiglow kit, or can I buy something that lays over the existing faces and uses the same existing lighting? I did a search and only saw info on the Illumiglow stuff. If that is my only option, does anyone have pictures and step by step instructions? I thought I saw
someone make what I described on the old KP site. Any help would be appreciated.

I found some cut outs once, but the illum glows look better. There's the problem with the needle being white, but you could always paint it. It'll take you longer to tear the bike down than to install the gauges.

You can use cut-outs. For best results, use poly labels (sold as "weatherproof" labels under the Avery brand for example) and a laser printer.
