  • My rear end feels squishy...

But I have started working out again to take care or that.

On to my next problem, the rear end of my bike feels really loose. It is hard to describe but here goes. When I am coming up to a stop light or something like that and I am going about 5-10 mph the back end of the bike feels like it is sliding to the left. It is a weird feeling. I checked the air pressure and filled to 40 lbs like it says on the tire and it still feels funny. It is a new rear tire, put like 200 mile or so on it, old front tire. Any suggestions???

check the axle nut, I bet it's not good and tight, or the rear is mis aligned
i had the same problem, when i would hit the rear brake and low speed, the back wheel kicks to the left.

DO NOT adjust the psi in the tire by whats written on the tire - adjust it to the specs of the bike. the 98+ is 33 front - 36 rear. adjust up a bit by your weight if your over 200 lbs with gear.

a new tire will feel a little greasy - but after 200 miles the center should be scrub'd in.

should be in your owners manual, if you still have it.

The last time I found this issue it was wheel alignment, if the wheel alignment is off slightly the bike will shift to one side during braking, mostly happens during rear braking.

                  Either:

                  (A) The rear axle isn't aligned correctly on both sides (don't trust those chain alignment plates as the final word), OR

                  (B) The rear caliper isn't coming out evenly on both sides (clean the caliper pistons), OR

                  (C) The swing arm assembly itself is bent slightly, OR

                  (D) You're locking up the rear and the tire is sliding, and it's sliding predominantly to the right because of the crowning on the road (which normally slopes to the outside for rain water drainage).

Note that option (A) is the most likely cause.

                  Good Luck!

I made a alignment tool out of coat hanger. Straighten it out and put a zip tie on it, bend the other end about 2" in from the tip. Use the front footpeg mounting screw on the front of both sides and the center of the axle. It should be equal on both sides to have a good alignment.
