  • Attempted theft now wont start.

Like the title says, came out one morning and the cover was off, and the lock cylinder, seemed lose. It wouldn't start at first, but I jiggled the key, and it kicked over.

I managed to get it started using this method a couple of time, but now it wont start at all.

The lights come on, nuetral, oil, and headlight, but it will not engage the starter. wont even click.
Can the lock cylinder cause this? and how would I diagnose/replace this?

Its a 94 600 frame with a 750 engine. I'm new to this whole motorcycle thing, but have have worked on more cars than I can count.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The frame is 1994, the engine I'm not sure of.

well if it's a 98+ ignition switch, there is a diode in there that will burn out if you don't start it with the correct key, and after it burns out it won't start again. Pre 98 ignition switches don't have that.

Could it be in the lock cylinder if the lights still work?

my guess is that your ignition switch is shot, I'd replace the ignition and key. The ignition key won't work with your fuel and seat, but just use 2 keys, no biggie.
